Welcome to the Association for Studies of Religion website, designed to support teachers in the delivery of the NSW Board of Studies Stage 6 Courses: Studies of Religion 1 Unit & Studies of Religion 2 Unit.

We are a small association, relying on the generosity of our members as well as the generosity of the ASR committee to organise a number of events each year for valuable and quality teacher support and development. Over the previous years we have held two Twilight Conferences each year which have been extremely well attended by SoR teachers. All SoR teachers can view the keynote addresses from some of the Twilight Conferences, however the workshop presentations are provided for members only.

In 2014 members were able to attend two Twilight Conferences, in May and in August. The first issue of the online journal : ASR eView – for ASR Members was launched in May and the second issue is now available under member resources.

In 2015 the committee organised a further two twilight conferences, one held in May and one in August. The topics were ‘Sacred Texts and Writings’ and ‘Reconciliation’. In 2016 the twilight conference titles included: ‘Essential Learnings from the 2015 HSC Examination’ and ‘The Dreaming: Past, Present and Future’.

In 2017 we held a further two Twilight Conferences: May – ‘Objects, Heirlooms & Artefacts- Curating Students’ Learning in Studies of Religion’ and August – ‘A Dialogue between belief and unbelief in contemporary Australia.’ New events held in 2017 included a Shabbat dinner for teachers organised in association with the Sydney Jewish Museum, Darlinghurst and a students Iftar dinner organised in association with ISRA, Amity College and Santa Sabina College.

In 2018 there were a number of opportunities available for members. These included a Sacred Places Visit on the 25 March to the Great Synagogue; the 2018 ASR Shabbat Dinner held on the 11 May; a teacher and student IFTAR dinner and the AGM and Twilight Conference held on the 30th August.

Membership is vital for the continuation of these high quality events and as such, the ASR committee welcomes previous, as well as new members, to complete their 2018 membership renewals now- go to https://asr.ptc.nsw.edu.au/

All SoR teachers are encouraged to use both the Facebook and Twitter feeds as a means of sharing their ideas, events and resources related to Studies of Religion.

The ASR Committee would like to thank you for accessing this site and for supporting your teacher association. We hope that as the site continues to develop that it will be of immense value to all members.
